Franschhoek is one of those places that seems made for weddings. Surrounded by dramatic mountains, vineyards and beautiful historic estates, the valley has a timeless elegance that never feels forced. There is something about the combination of incredible scenery, beautiful architecture and soft Winelands light that makes every celebration here feel a little more special.
Tamsyn and Ruan's wedding at The Conservatory was a beautiful example of what makes Franschhoek such a wonderful wedding destination. The setting provided an elegant backdrop for their day, while the surrounding landscape gave us plenty of opportunities to step outside and create photographs that felt connected to the place they had chosen to get married.
From the quiet moments before the ceremony to the celebrations that followed, their wedding had an effortless sense of romance. And as the light changed throughout the afternoon, Franschhoek revealed another side of itself — from the rich greens of the surrounding gardens to the dramatic mountains beyond.
Why I Love Photographing Weddings in Franschhoek
I love photographing weddings in Franschhoek because there is something effortlessly romantic about the valley. The combination of beautiful architecture, vineyards, dramatic mountains and that distinctive Winelands light creates an incredible backdrop for photographs, while the landscape constantly offers something new as the day unfolds.
What I especially love is the variety. A wedding can move from intimate moments indoors to expansive portraits amongst the vineyards, with the mountains providing a sense of scale and atmosphere in the background. And when the afternoon light begins to soften, everything seems to take on a more cinematic quality.
For me, though, the landscape is never the main story. It is there to enhance the people, the emotions and the moments happening within it. My aim is always to create photographs that feel natural and honest — images that don't just show you what your wedding looked like, but take you back to how it felt.

There is an understated elegance to the space that works beautifully with my approach to wedding photography. It feels refined without being overly formal, while the surrounding Franschhoek landscape brings a wonderful sense of place to the photographs.

I love being able to move between the atmosphere of the celebration and the quieter moments outside — finding those little pockets of light and space where a couple can simply be together for a moment. My approach to weddings is relaxed, creative and unobtrusive. I don't want you to spend your wedding day constantly thinking about the camera. Instead, I want you to be present — celebrating, laughing, hugging your friends, shedding a few happy tears and enjoying every moment with the people who matter most.
I'll step in when a little direction will make a portrait great, but most of the time I'm watching, anticipating and looking for those fleeting moments that happen naturally.
The result is a combination of cinematic portraits, genuine emotion and honest documentary moments, all brought together to tell the story of your wedding in a way that feels uniquely yours.
