Erani & Arno’s Wedding at Damarakloof, Stellenbosch
There are some wedding venues that immediately give a wedding photographs a sense of place. Damarakloof in Stellenbosch is one of them.
Set on a working farm in the Muldersvlei area, Damarakloof combines the relaxed character of a Cape Winelands farm with beautiful gardens, vineyards and historic farm buildings. The venue is just outside Stellenbosch and within easy reach of Cape Town, Paarl and Franschhoek.
For Erani and Arno, Damarakloof provided the perfect backdrop for a wedding that felt relaxed, personal and full of character.
As a Stellenbosch wedding photographer, these are the kinds of celebrations I love photographing most — weddings where the setting, the people and the little unscripted moments all come together to tell a story.
A wedding with personality
One of the things that stood out about Erani and Arno's wedding was the personality running through the day.
Arno's burgundy suit was certainly hard to miss. Paired with his patterned tie, pocket square and classic brown shoes, the look brought a bold, individual character to the wedding. Rather than following a traditional neutral wedding palette, the styling felt confident and unmistakably personal.
And that's something I always encourage couples to embrace.
Your wedding photographs shouldn't simply document what your wedding looked like. They should remind you what it felt like to be there.
The nervous anticipation.
The laughter with friends.
The ridiculous moments that weren't planned.
The people who travelled to celebrate with you.
The quiet moments when you finally get a second to take everything in.
Those are the photographs that become more meaningful as the years pass.
Damarakloof: A Stellenbosch wedding venue with character
Damarakloof is a particularly interesting setting for wedding photography because it offers such a mixture of textures and environments.
The venue has its Farm Barn and Garden Chapel, while the surrounding property includes vineyards, lawns, gardens and the character of an authentic working farm. The Garden Pavilion provides a light-filled ceremony setting overlooking the surrounding landscape, while the original Farm Barn provides a more atmospheric setting for the reception.
That variety gives a photographer plenty to work with.
Rather than making every photograph look the same, the day can naturally move through different visual environments — from intimate portraits and candid moments to wider photographs that place the couple within the beautiful Stellenbosch landscape.
For couples considering a Damarakloof wedding, this is one of the things I love most about the venue: it doesn't feel like you're simply photographing a wedding inside a venue.
You're photographing a place, a season, a celebration and a group of people coming together.
